History Revisited

Built in 1927, this historic retail center found new life through Teagen Development. The 6,900 square foot building, once owned by Ovid Butler, founder of Butler University, sat vacant and deteriorating since the 1980s. Teagen Development acquired the property and began an ambitious redevelopment project in 2013. In addition to the significant structural redevelopment, Teagen preserved and recreated the building’s historic details, including the clay tile roof, masonry details, and wood-and-glass storefront systems. In 2015, Teagen Development won an Indiana Landmarks Historic Preservation award for restoration of the building.

Today, Ovid and Calvin Commons is home to Sultana Cafe & Hookah Bar and Leviathan Bakehouse.
